The independent AI infrastructure underneath modern poker
Live in WPT Global, ClubWPT Gold, WPK, and several other rooms. AceGuardian's anti-cheat layer watches around 30% of the online market. A cross-platform ecology report on softness, skill, and integrity is coming.
Thanh Tran is the founder. Academic AI background, then helped take Upwork public, then ten years working inside the poker industry. Building this independently now.
Four angles, each verifiable, each grounded in published work. Pick the one that fits your beat and we'll set up founder access, coach interviews, advance ecology data, and on-the-record operator sources to back it.
Story 1 · The industry story
"The independent AI layer underneath modern poker"
Every major operator has the same two problems with AI right now: coach the recreational players, and keep the cheating tooling out. AceGuardian + QuintAce is the only independent platform shipping both from one integration. Already live in WPT Global, ClubWPT Gold, WPK, and several other brands.
Story 2 · The manifesto
"GTO is a toy model — the industry has moved past it"
Five-ish years of "GTO is solved" turns out to rest on weaker ground than the headlines suggested. The paper everyone cites disclaims its own claim if you read past the abstract. Pluribus, the "beat top pros" result, was reviewed: small sample, narrow conditions, never reproduced in real games. The coaches who built the GTO era are the ones quietly teaching what comes after. The strategy piece your readers actually want.
Story 3 · The integrity story
"AI doesn't beat humans in poker. Cheating does."
Honest players already know cheating is in the games. They can feel it. AceGuardian's anti-cheat is what's actually pushing back: ~30% of the online market under behavioral monitoring, 90%+ of known bots caught at 99%+ precision, five threat vectors covered (bots, collusion, real-time assistance, account sharing, chip dumping). Server-side. Players install nothing. The ecosystem-health piece.
Story 4 · Human in the loop
"AI hasn't replaced your coach — and the data says it can't"
Three things poker AI still can't do on its own. It can't run your session. It doesn't actually beat humans in the games people play (the Pluribus paper notwithstanding). And it can't teach, because teaching needs someone who knows where the student is stuck. Coaches feel this every day. The AI-replaces-humans story hasn't caught up yet. The strategy-meets-AI feature piece.
Each angle has a long-form piece behind it (next slide) or a live integration we'll walk you through. Pick yours.

Roughly 75 pieces you can read, link, quote, syndicate, embed, or co-brand. Live articles, in-pipeline drafts, books, comics, drop-in widgets, a lesson library. Email Thanh for full access; pre-publication PDFs and advance materials are available on request.
Ecology Report — advance pre-brief available. A cross-platform comparison of softness, skill, integrity, rake, and winrates by operator. Methodology open at publication. Every operator gets invited to contribute data. The shorthand we use internally: "where the poker industry actually is right now, told with data." Email Thanh for the pre-brief.
Story 1 · why the industry story is real
The first operator-independent AI integrated across multiple major rooms
Every major operator has the same two AI problems right now: coach the recreational players, keep the cheating tooling out. AceGuardian and QuintAce ship both from one integration, as an independent platform. Nobody else is doing that.
Live in production: ClubWPT Gold (since September 2025), WPT Global, WPK (mobile-first, Chinese-language UI). Three different integration shapes, all running on the same underlying AI.
Many other brands: additional operators in LATAM, APAC, and worldwide. We'll name specifics on the record once partner-side agreements close.
What an independent AI layer actually changes: the engine sits underneath the industry, not inside any single operator. Recreational players get a real path to improve through coaching, skill assessment, and drills. Cheating tooling gets pushed back consistently across rooms. Game integrity stops depending on any single operator's policies.
The Stockfish analogy works inside poker. The chess engine sits underneath the chess world; nobody owns it. The poker industry hasn't had that layer. AceGuardian and QuintAce are the first to build it, and the first to ship it across multiple operators.

Independent tech founder with a decade-plus track record across academic AI, public-company engineering, and the poker industry
Thanh Tran is the founder and CEO of AceGuardian and QuintAce, running an independent company that serves the whole poker and gaming industry. Integration partners across multiple operators and regions. The pedigree underneath:
Academic AI research
CS PhD, AI research group leader, Stanford visiting
PhD from KIT (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology). AI research group leader at AIFB. Visiting Assistant Professor at Stanford. Roughly 6,000 citations on Google Scholar; ranked top 5 in Semantic Search and top 50 in Web Search on the 2016 Google Scholar Global Index. "Most Cited Article 2006–2010" from the Journal of Web Semantics. The original poker-AI work with his CS students started in 2005, which is the through-line to what's running today.
Public-company engineering
Helped Upwork go public
Co-founded Semsolute and built SearchWebDB, the first natural-language semantic search over billion-scale data (winner of the 2008 Billion Triple Challenge). Executive role through Upwork's path to IPO; Upwork hit a $6.5B-plus valuation by 2019. The operational side of taking research engineering to public-company scale.
Poker industry experience
Co-CEO of A5 Labs, strategic direction across A5 Group brands
Co-CEO of A5 Labs, the leading anti-cheat provider in poker. Strategic direction across the A5 Group brands, including work on WPT Global growth and ClubWPT Gold growth. Years of operator-side context for what the industry actually needs.
Now
Building AceGuardian and QuintAce as an independent infrastructure layer
CEO of AceGuardian and QuintAce. Independent by design: the AI infrastructure layer the industry needs has to be operator-independent. The compute to run this at production scale only became viable in the last 24 months. The 2005 academic poker-AI work is what this company is the continuation of.
What we've actually built — what no one else has shipped
Four claims. Each one is concrete, verifiable, and checkable with the operators we're integrated with.
First
Operator-independent AI integrated across multiple major poker rooms
Live in production with WPT Global, ClubWPT Gold, and WPK. First time an AI coaching layer has shipped across multiple operators from one independent provider.
9+ variants
Every format, every configuration
NLHE, PLO (4-card, 5-card, Hi-Lo), Short Deck, MTT with ICM, Bomb Pots, Stand-Up Squid, All-in or Fold, Flash, Global Spins. Plus games outside poker: Mahjong and Guandan. Any blinds, ante, or stack depth your operator runs, the AI covers.
90%+ coverage of all known bots in the industry at 99%+ precision. Roughly 30% of the online poker market under behavioral monitoring. Five threat vectors detected from gameplay data alone. Server-side; players install nothing.
Closed-loop research engine
Gameplay AI plus conversational AI plus auto-research, in continuous feedback
The gameplay AI is one half. The other half is a conversational and auto-research layer built on top of an LLM, paired with the gameplay AI. Together they propose hypotheses, verify them against the solver, output publishable articles and books, and feed the verified heuristics back into the gameplay AI as training signal. This is what produces the 30+ coach-attributed articles and two book-length series. All solver-backed, methodology open.
Every variant your audience plays
Independence + integration + coach roster
The independent layer — already live, already endorsed
Operator-independent AI infrastructure, already integrated across the WPT family and non-WPT operators. The coach roster includes the names that matter in poker strategy.
"AI doesn't beat humans in poker. Cheating does." Pluribus didn't actually beat humans in the games people play (different formats, multi-table, varied opponents), and the original data didn't even reach significance. But bots, real-time assistance, and collusion tooling do beat humans in real games every day. AceGuardian's anti-cheat is what's pushing back, across roughly 30% of the online market, in production.
Live partners
Coach roster — different specialties, one AI
Nick Petrangelo · Daniel Dvoress · Uri Peleg · Brad Wilson · Andrew Seidman
Nick and Dan (GTO Lab) are two of the most respected high-stakes MTT minds in poker. Uri Peleg is the Stand-Up Squid specialist who authored the first strategy manual for the format. Brad Wilson (Chasing Poker Greatness) is a community-facing coach and AMA host. Andrew Seidman brings methodology-grade partnership work.
Support from WPT brand ambassadors
Phil Ivey and the WPT Global ambassador roster
The world-class players and content creators who put their name on the platforms QuintAce powers, led by Phil Ivey. Roster expanding alongside the integration footprint.
